About the role
We are looking for a commercially driven, consultative, and highly motivated Senior Account Executive to support merchant growth across the Greater China Region, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
In this role, you will manage and grow a portfolio of SMB merchants with meaningful expansion potential. You will work closely with merchants to understand their business model, commercial priorities, operational challenges, and growth ambitions. You will then identify opportunities where Shopify can help accelerate their success - whether through product adoption, plan expansion, payments adoption, cross-border commerce, ecosystem partners, or broader platform capabilities.
This role requires a strong balance of commercial discipline, consultative selling, regional business understanding, and merchant empathy. You will be expected to run structured growth conversations, build actionable account plans, identify revenue opportunities, and partner cross-functionally with Support, Solutions, Product, Marketing, Partnerships, and Merchant Success teams.
As an Senior Account Executive, you will be expected to operate with a high degree of independence, manage complex merchant conversations, influence senior stakeholders, and contribute to the broader SMB Acceleration strategy for GCR.
Key Responsibilities:
Own and grow a portfolio of SMB merchants across GCR, with accountability for revenue growth, product adoption, and merchant expansion outcomes.
Develop a deep understanding of each merchant’s business model, growth stage, operational needs, and commercial priorities.
Identify and execute acceleration opportunities across the merchant base, including plan upgrades, product adoption, payments adoption, international expansion, B2B opportunities, POS or retail expansion, and partner-led growth.
Build structured account plans for priority merchants, using data and merchant signals to identify growth opportunities and risks.
Run consultative discovery conversations with merchants to uncover business needs, commercial blockers, and opportunities for Shopify to create measurable impact.
Drive adoption of relevant Shopify products and solutions by clearly connecting product capabilities to merchant business outcomes.
Manage a high-quality pipeline of expansion opportunities, maintaining accurate forecasting, next steps, and account-level insights in Salesforce or relevant CRM systems.
Partner closely with cross-functional teams, including Solutions Engineering, Support, Merchant Success, Marketing, Partnerships, Product, and Risk/Payments teams, to deliver the right outcomes for merchants.
Work with local and regional agency, technology, and ecosystem partners to support merchant growth and execution where appropriate.
Represent Shopify as a trusted advisor to merchants, helping them navigate commerce strategy, platform capabilities, and growth opportunities.
Share merchant feedback and market insights with internal teams to help improve Shopify’s product, go-to-market approach, and regional execution in GCR.
Stay informed on GCR commerce trends, competitive dynamics, platform ecosystems, consumer behavior, and regulatory or operational considerations that may impact SMB merchants.
Contribute to team best practices, playbooks, and scalable engagement models for SMB Acceleration across GCR.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in commercial sales, account management, growth, business development, or merchant-facing roles within SaaS, commerce, payments, technology, or digital platforms.
Strong understanding of the GCR commerce landscape, including merchant needs across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Experience working with SMB or mid-market merchants, preferably in e-commerce, retail, cross-border commerce, digital marketing, payments, or platform technology.
Demonstrated ability to identify growth opportunities within an existing customer or merchant base and convert them into measurable commercial outcomes with proven outbounding skills.
Strong consultative selling skills, with the ability to ask thoughtful questions, diagnose merchant needs, and position solutions effectively.
Proven track record of achieving or exceeding revenue, adoption, or growth targets.
Strong commercial judgment, with the ability to prioritize accounts and opportunities based on impact, urgency, merchant potential, and business value.
Ability to manage a high-volume book of merchants while maintaining quality, focus, and strong execution discipline.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to engage business owners, operators, marketing leads, technical stakeholders, and agency partners.
Comfortable using data to guide account planning, pipeline management, and merchant prioritization.
Experience with CRM tools such as Salesforce, as well as sales engagement and productivity platforms.
Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across multiple internal functions to solve merchant problems.
Fluency in Mandarin and English is strongly preferred. Cantonese or additional regional language capability is a plus, depending on market coverage.
