About the role
Shopify's Enterprise Solutions Engineers are trusted technical advisors to our largest merchants — part solution consultant, part expert generalist, part technical closer. As the leader of this team, you will lead a group of tenured SEs working with some of the largest brands in the world, set the standard for what great looks like in the craft, and partner closely with Sales leadership to hit ambitious growth targets.
This is a hands-on player coach leadership role. You'll mentor, grow and unblock for the team, but you'll also stay close enough to deals to keep real context on what your SEs face in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and grow the team. Develop a team of tenured Enterprise Solutions Engineers covering our largest market segments, and build a culture that rewards effective technical selling, ownership, and long-term merchant success.
Shopify's platform is one of the largest and feature rich commerce platforms on the market. An effective solutions leader in Shopify is one who knows the product and solutions deeply.
Coach with rigor and frequency. Mentor SEs into strategic technical advisors, solution consultants, and expert generalists on the Shopify platform through strong, frequent, metrics-informed feedback.
Define the craft. Partner with other Solutions Engineering leads to set the standard of excellence for the SE discipline at Shopify, and own initiatives that improve team performance.
Drive complex sales cycles. Guide the team through complex enterprise pursuits and work with Sales leaders to achieve ambitious growth targets. Success is measured on win rate, MRR attribution, attach rate, churn, and time to value.
Build cross-functional partnerships. Lead your team into initiatives with Sales, Launch, Product, Marketing, and external partners — advocating for prospective and current merchants throughout.
Close the loop with Product and Engineering. Source customer-facing technical insights and feed them back to Product and Engineering, then scale that product depth across your team and back out to merchants.
Own enablement. Identify Product and Solutioning enablement gaps and ensure training materials get built to serve the enterprise community.
Scale the team's impact. Find where Solutions Engineering can extend its reach beyond individual deals.
Stay in the work. Contribute directly to deals to maintain real context on the SE role and the problems your team is solving.
